Dr. Jack Kevorkian and the right to die debate

by Joshua Serafini

Created on: July 11, 2010

So I guess the question everyone is asking is are you allowed to help assist death? I hate to admit it but I personally think you should be and I'll give you my reasons why. Doctors in hospitals are not allowed to help you (kill) yourself because you are sick or terminally ill. I would not imagine that someone that was terminally Ill would want to end their life.

So if you have someone that is this sick and suffering and the hospitals will not help them do this then why is Dr. Jack not allowed to help? He has to live with his actions doesn't he? He has to answer to the higher up for his actions doesn't he? So why does anyone care if someone wants him to help them, it's their body isn't it? I'm not sure what the problem is here but if someone does not want to live for who knows how long with some type of problem, then why not let the Dr. do what he knows best.

I watched a lot of programs regarding the procedure on this and he gets to kinda know them first and makes them very comfortable before anything happens and he explains what is exactly going on. Now let's think about it this way for a second, if you had cancer and it was terminal and you were on your way out, what would be the problem with this procedure? Now before you answer think of it like this and really think about it before you judge.

You have pancreatic cancer and you have maybe 6 months to live and you are in the worst pain you have ever experienced and you know about this Dr. and you can afford to do this and your family supports you and when I say the pain is the worst, I mean you can't take it any more and then someone tells you that you cannot have this done because it is not legal. What do you do?

Well let me tell you, it's also not "legal" to drink and drive but people do it, it's also not legal to smoke pot but people do it, it's not legal to rob banks but people do it, it's not legal for people to swim across borders and live off our welfare system for 50 years but people do it. So I'll ask you again, what's the problem with doing with your life what you want? If it was me and I needed the help and had the means to do it I would. So I say to you Dr. Jack, I may not think that everyone who does this should, but it's their life and their right.
