Poetry: Adoption

The Hardest Choice

A pink plus sign materializes,

Nine months to worry, wonder.

Hundreds of decisions to make.

Three trimesters of anxiety, amazement.

Fourteen hours filled by many tears, latent fears.

Delicate second thought

could-be plans as flimsy as spurs

embraced by orchid petals dissipate.

One innocent life

Two would-be Mothers

High school drop-out crying.

Married and established jealous, pacing.

Two days pass, discharged.

Time to go. With or without. One more

last minute fanciful image of playing in grass

She cries, gives wet kisses to his sleeping face
