Job search engine tips for better job hunting results

Utilizing a search engine can be a great way to find job postings and other job advertisements.  However, search engines are not independently intelligent.  As such, search engines will provide you with information based only on what you put into it.  Therefore, in order to get specific, useful results, you need to be specific with your search criteria, and you need to be willing to search through the extensive results list in order to discover credible job opportunities.

You have to be specific when using a search engine to look for job postings and other job advertisements.  For example, merely putting the terms “restaurant job openings” may produce millions of results.  These results may not be very useful as they are not specific to a geographic location, job title, or restaurant description.  These problems can be corrected by adding specifics to your search.  As such, searching the terms “Las Vegas server jobs for fine dining restaurant” will produce far more specific results.  As such, you will be able find more and better job opportunities.

In addition to using a search engine to find jobs throughout the entire Internet, you should use a search engine to find jobs for a specific company.  If you know the name of the company you want to work for, try a search utilizing the company’s name.  Doing so will restrict your search results to webpages containing the name of the company you searched.  In fact, the search engine may even bring up results from that company’s website.  Obviously, if you want to work for a specific company, that company’s website will be a very valuable resource in locating job postings.

Finally, you can use a search engine to find job postings and other job advertisements for a field in general.  As mentioned above, you should limit your search to a particular geographic location.  However, if you do not care about a specific job title, try doing a universal search of an entire industry.  For example, you may search “Las Vegas restaurant jobs.”  These terms will provide you with broad results for a specific geographic area.

Search engines can be a great resource to utilize when searching for job postings and other job advertisements.  However, if you want specific search engine results, you have to use specific search terms.  Additionally, if you know which company you would like to work for, utilize search terms with that company’s name.  Finally, if you want to do a general search of job postings and other job advertisements in a particular industry for a specific geographic location, specify only the geographic location in your search terms.
