I have the following suggestions to consider creating your website:
1. Decide what your content will be. Are you selling something? Is this a site providing information? An organization? This will dictate whether your site domain name, for example, will be a .com or a .org.
2. Once you have decided the content, decide what audience you want to reach and decide exactly what the most important information that you want to put on your main page will be. The main page will be your selling point and if it's interesting enough, it will entice the viewer to dig deeper into the site to read more information.
3. Once you have decided the content and type of website, you will need to build it. There are plenty of free website templates available on the Internet and there are also plenty of free hosting sites. You will need to bear in mind that the consequences of free will most likely entail adverts on you site. If you don't mind advertising content, this option may work for you. If you do, the better option would be to subscribe to a paid hosting service to hold your website and either purchase templates to build the site, or build it your self.
4. The options of building your site are many; from using basic HTML (hyper text markup language. This will build a very basis, but functional, information site with pictures etc). You can also use, for example, a program such as Dreamweaver to build. There are plenty of other web page building options such as PHP that will allow a database to be linked to your site which is useful if you are planning on engaging in e-commerce..Computer knowledge required for both options there are plenty of free HTML and web tutorials online if you want to go the do-it-yourself route
5. Once you have your domain name purchased/reserved, your content and website built, it is time to send this information to your website host so that it is live and viewable via search engines on the Internet.
6. For a yearly subscription, you can pay a nominal fee for a company to host your website. Email addresses and other services are usually included in the fee. If you opt to go the free route, you can post your site to your free host site.
If this is your first website, I would strongly suggest drawing up a plan of what you want to achieve from having yourself or your company web-based. A good starting strategy takes the pain out of having to re-design your website and this can also be very costly to you if you are paying a company to do this work for you.
