Arcade Hockey

Category: Games

Developer: Brainjuice, LLC

General info:

Arcade Hockey is a game in the arcade genre. It resembles the air hockey tables that you will find in your local arcade. You can choose to play single player against the game itself or you can choose 2-player mode where two players can play against each other on the same device. You can also choose between two types of games. In ’best of 5’ the first to score three points is the winner. In ’2 minutes’ you play a full two minutes and the winner is the one to score the most points during that time. You are able to select music from your own music library to play in the background replacing the music that is there as a standard.

Controls:

Controlling the air hockey mallet is done by placing your finger on top of it and dragging it around. The mallet moves around very smooth and is very responsive and accurate. When playing two players on the same screen the accuracy and responsiveness stays the same however if the two mallets gets close to each other near the middle they can be stuck together because the two fingers will work as one. That happing is very uncommon in a regular game though.

Graphics:

The graphics in this game are very decent. All edges look smooth and the mallets impact with the puck looks realistic. When in a ’best of 5’ game and when the score is tied at 2-2 the puck will look like it is on fire. When in a ’2 minutes’ game the puck will work as a timer counting down the two minutes.

Gameplay:

The game is very fun and is a good way to kill some time both in the one and two player mode. If you upgrade the game different difficulty settings, other mallets and other pucks will be available. The game is able to stay fun because it is challenging every time you play. If some kind of challenge mode with opponents increasing in difficulty were added it would make this game great.

Conclusion and rating:

As mentioned above this is not a game that gets boring quick but you will rather want to come back and play it often. It is definitely worth a download if you like the idea of having an air hockey table in your pocket.
