There are many things most of us want to teach our children about the world and about themselves. Most people want their children to grow up happy and healthy. And to get them there, we need to teach them basics. Basics seems to have gone by the wayside in the last few years.
Finding the Good-
I want to teach my children to find the good in every situation. If I can get one thing across to them while they are young and in my care, it would be that. I want them to realize, while a situation might seem dire there is always something good in there, if we look hard enough. Sometimes, it might be very hard to find but it's there. We just have to root around for it at times.
Being positive is actually a lot easier than being negative. It's a habit like anything else. I want them to see that and begin learning how to be positive in a negative world as soon as they can.
Balance-
I want my children to be kind to others but not to the point that they put other people ahead of themselves 100% of the time. I want them to know that sometimes, they really do need to put others first but not every time.
Learning-
Learning is important and school is their job. I want to teach them that one of the best things they can do for themselves it to learn all they can. So often, we hear adults say they look back on their school years and wish they'd paid more attention and done more work.
Manners-
Manners make a person's life easier. Being able to talk politely and act politely to others will make you stand out in the crowd these days. So make sure to use those good manners all the time. Too many times, people think manners are old fashioned. They shouldn't be. A simple thank you goes a long way.
Passion-
I want to help my kids find their true passion in life. Whatever it may be. I want them to know that life is so much more fun when you're passionate about something. I hope to lead them by example in this department, by letting them see my passion for all sorts of things in life.
Work ethic-
I want to make sure my kids learn that you get what you work for. Nobody gets anything in life for free. If you want something you must work hard to get it. And if you choose not to work for it, it's not anyone's fault but your own. I want them to learn while they are young that a little hard work never hurt anyone.
