Social Security Disability benefits should be given to more people that have a verifiable disability. A verifiable disability, means a licensed doctor has signed off that this person is no longer able to work. Admittedly, there are degrees of disability and a doctor must establish your degree of disability. Most people that are on disability have probably been turned down with their first try at receiving their benefits. However anyone that can not return to work because of a disability is deemed eligible for these benefits, if their disability is verified by a licensed medical doctor.
Some illness that may deem you unable to work are, just to name few;Heart conditions, Leukemia,Lupus,Strokes,chronic conditions,seizures,depression,neurosis,multiple sclerosis, problematic pregnancy, and a host of other medical conditions to numerous to name.
Consider this, there before the Grace of God go I. Would you want to be denied assistance if you were no longer able to work and had a verifiable condition that prevented you from working? It is a fallacy to believe that anyone can receive disability income. Ninety percent are turned away, their first time. The system is designed for the people that really need assistance and rightly so.
It is absolutely true this system of Social Security Disability has been taken advantage of and under fraud by individuals trying to gain compensation. It is up to the recipient to follow the strict guidelines to receive their Social Security Disability benefit. This process is akin to jumping through hoops and a lot of paper work has to be completed to receive Social Security Benefits.
On an average, a Social Security recipient is only receiving a fourth of their salary while on disability. It stands to reason, one quarter of their salary has probably put them just above poverty level and they may be hardly able to pay for their living expenses. We must remember Social Security Disability is not at all related to welfare. This is not considered a free ride. Everyone on Social Security Disability has paid into this system, while they were able to work.
A more feasible and just plan would be to limit the time period for a person who receives welfare and never cause any interruption to Social Security Disability. It is never the fault of the individual if they become injured or ill.Why punish an individual for an unseen malady or injury.?
