Poetry: Add and subtract

New for Us

A little bean inside of me

Growing day by day

A precious son, a little boy

My firstborn, on his way

Less than a year until a person

Will be here by my side

In his Daddy's and my arms

Our hearts filled with pride

What a lonely life we led

Both he and I alone

A waitress and a firefighter

Two houses, but no home

We came together and grew in love

And now our son grows, too

No longer lonely, but family

A joy so wond'rous new

This grand little addition

Has changed our lives completely

And subtracted all the emptiness

From two lost lives so neatly
