Recipes: Cranberry ham

by George Zhou

Created on: July 06, 2010

Cranberry ham is a savory recipe for meat lovers and those with a sweet tooth. Perfect for dessert or main courses, cranberry ham is a versatile dish, ready to be devoured whenever you wish, in solitude or with joyful company . It pairs with other sweets or fruits and even sugarless (but fresh and tasty) vegetables.

The nutrition of cranberry ham is great. Cranberries are often considered superfoods and are enriched with vitamins and minerals such as fiber, calcium, magnesium, manganese, phosphorus, potassium, Vitamin C, Vitamin A, and Vitamin K. The ham will add incredible amounts of protein and also add a hearty feeling to your filled stomach. Combining a superfood with  an extremely filling dish creates a whole new dish that will blow your mind.

Pre-cooking, or preparation time, is about 18 minutes. The actual cooking is about two hours. A short time considering dishes that require the same preparation and cooking methods.

First, preheat the oven to 350 F.

Get ready some pans, bowls, and a large pot.

And of course, you need the ingredients!

Ingredients:

A large ham, preferably with the bone still attached (I prefer hams hickory smoked)

1 cup of fresh orange juice

1 cup of water

1 can of jellied cranberry sauce

1/2 teaspoon of ground black pepper

1/4 cup of brown sugar

1/2 teaspoon ground cloves

1/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon

Directions:

1. Put the ham on a large pan, tray, or bowl and add cranberry sauce.

2. Sprinkle on the ground cloves and cinnamon evenly on the ham

3. Sprinkle the black pepper moderately on the ham.

4. Pour the cranberry sauce, water, and orange juice into a bowl and stir until the ingredients are well mixed.

5. Now boil the ham for about 10 minutes.

6. Place ham into a roasting pan. (make sure you use a good, non-stick pan.)

7. Add the cranberry glaze by pouring over the ham.

8. Bake the ham at 350 F in the oven.

9. Let it sit for one hour. (enjoy the smells coming from the over...)

10. The ham should be well done and ready!

This recipe would be for a ham of incredible taste and nutrition. An excellent dish or dessert, as it is sweet and filling all the while. Store for another day by simply using the fridge. Flavor will be preserved and the ham is as good as new. Perfect for self-enjoyment, perfect for guests. Enjoy!
