If you are concerned about using red as one of the main colors inside your home because of its connotations with anger and passion, just take a look around you to see the many instances of this color and its various shades that occur in nature. Use the inspiration of the changing colors of the trees in autumn, the red berries that grow in the wild and the red blooms of the flowers to help you bring this natural color indoors.
In Feng Shui, red can be used to create eye-catching accents and color schemes. In nature, this color is complimented by others, such as green in the leaves of the plants and the contrast of the colors of the flowers. Sunsets are red, as are the glowing embers of a fire and since fire is one of the main elements in the principle of Feng Shui, why wouldn’t you want to bring it into your living space?
Red is the color that has the longest wavelength and its association with fire can give you and your family more energy, helping you to lead an active lifestyle. Rooms of your home that are painted red or have red accents, such as furniture, pillows, bed coverings or window dressings, will benefit from having positive chi. Too much red, though, will be overwhelming and make you feel aggravated and stressed. Therefore you do have to find a delicate balance when using this color.
The best option for the use of red in feng shui decorating is to choose touches or red, rusts or pinks in only certain rooms of your home. Perhaps you might want to limit it to the home office or the workshop where you want to feel inspired. You don’t need to have too much red to bring in the positive chi because a red candlestick or a bouquet of red flowers will provide the color that you need.
Red does have a bearing on your health, which is why it is so important in Feng Shui. It can help to alleviate certain illnesses, such as head colds and color therapists claim that the warm rays of red can soothe muscle aches and pains. A red hallway or entryway in your home can promote healing qualities throughout the entire house.
When you enter a home that does have red as an accent or predominant color sit back and observe those who reside there. More than likely you will find that they are talkative, and quick-thinking. They may probably be a little hot-tempered as well.
