One of the most attractive features of Jeep Wrangler's are the infinite ways the vehicle can be modified. Some people, once they get the “modification bug,” can spend large sums of money on after-market products for their Jeep; hence the saying JEEP is really an acronym for “just empty every pocket.” There are however, a number of alterations that can be done involving little or no cash. The following information will outline some of those modifications that can be done to enhance your Jeep without draining your bank account.
As the owner of a 2008 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited, I have completed a number of small modifications that I believe have improved the overall functionality and appearance of my vehicle. One of the easiest mods increased the field of vision through the windshield. By simply flipping the rear view mirror upside down and pushing it towards the top of the windshield you can improve vision significantly.
The mesh grille mod can be completed in a short amount of time, costs less than $20, and looks great. To complete this mod go to your local hardware store and buy a roll of plastic mesh gutter guard, some zip tie mounting bases, a package of zip ties, and gorilla glue or a similar adhesive. To get to the grille, you will need to open the hood and remove the plastic screws along the top of the grille, which hold it in place. Next, cut strips of the gutter guard to fit each slot in the grille, remove the adhesive backing on the mounting bases and attach them around the inside of the grille with gorilla glue. You then wait for the glue to dry and attach the gutter guard with the zip ties, making sure they are pulled tightly. The end result is a cleaner, more stylish appearance to the front of your Jeep.
Some of the other modifications I have made involve limiting the “quirks” found with most Jeep Wranglers. For example, every time I would drive over a bump or rough spot in the road, I began to hear a “rattle” from somewhere in the dash. After countless hours of trying to track down the source of the rattle, I discovered an area under the hood where the air conditioning line goes through the firewall into the dash. This area is not padded, and the lines would clang against the firewall, causing the infamous rattle. I stopped the rattle by taking some foam pipe insulation, cutting it into small pieces, and stuffing
