There are many common errors that new Helium members make whilst contributing to the site. Errors range from bad spelling and grammar, to block text and not fully knowing the subject matter that they are writing about. Let us take the first error, bad spelling. There will be bad spelling when you type a piece - that is to be expected.
Even for the best writers, typos are missed from time to time. But when those typos are scattered throughout a piece of writing, and when they are not checked and dealt with, then that is shoddy work. When you produce a piece of writing you must always strive to make it as professional-looking as possible, free from as many spelling errors as possible.
Check, double-check and triple check your work, if needs be, to catch any words that have escaped your gaze. Bad spelling is one of the main causes of your work being ranked down on Helium, so, when you are not quite sure about how a certain word is spelt, use spellchecker.
Writing in block text is another major error when producing work for Helium. A reader that is faced with having to read through a lump of
text will click away from your piece as soon as they see your work. Producing work like this is unprofessional and shoddy, and it would mean that you would never succeed on a site like Helium. Work containing masses of block text is not the way to go about succeeding on a site like Helium..
A writer that wanders off the subject matter, and who begins to ramble, will find no success on Helium. One of the main rules for any type of writing is never to wander off the main subject matter. This shows a distinct lack of unprofessionalism on your part, and it also tells the reader that you do not know what you are writing about. Always know your subject, and your pieces will then be concise and consistent.
Not writing to the length required is another trait of many beginner writers on Helium. Work that falls short [when the minimum length should be 400 words or more] are often posted. This means that your work will be flagged. In fact, with all of the errors that I have mentioned above, they are grounds for being flagged up by the reader.
Work that has been copied from someone else's piece is frowned upon in a big way. This is called plagiarism and as such you will soon gain a reputation that will stick. Never ever steal someone else's work as you could find yourself up in a court of law because of copyright
