The easiest way to find a job

There’s nothing easy about finding a job.  In fact, some will say that finding a job, is a job.  There is no need to be discouraged though.  Finding a job may take some time and some effort, but those who persevere will find employment sooner or later.

Visit job sites such as www.workopolis.com, www.monster.com, www.eluta.com and www.craigslist.com to name but a few, daily.  Some job sites allow job seekers to create a job alert, a feature that will notify you when jobs matching your qualifications are posted.

Post your resume on www.workopolis.com and make it searchable.  Companies and agencies alike are always on the lookout for new job seekers.  Beware though, posting your resume on-line smacks of desperation and may work against you.

Register with as many employment agencies in your neighborhood as possible.  Visit their website regularly to keep an eye on job postings and stay in touch with your consultant.  At least one phone call or email per week.

Make yourself available for temporary work.  A full-time job may be hard to come by, but most agencies have a temporary work division.  If you are willing to do any kind of work, for any kind of pay, you will be contacted by them.  As you build up a reputation with the agency, you will be trusted with bigger and better assignments.

Contact company websites directly.  Nearly all companies have a ‘Careers’ tab on their website.  Many of them allow you to click and apply for available positions.  Others merely have a ‘Contact Us’ tab, which provides an email address to which resumes can be forwarded.  You can also try calling the given number, speak to the human resources department and finding out if the company is hiring.

Network with family, friends and acquaintances.  Ask them to keep an ear to the ground and an eye on the notice board for possible job opportunities.  Sometimes a friend of a friend of a friend may provide a lead to a job.  If you left a previous job on good terms, don’t hesitate to contact the personnel department and see if there are any vacancies.

If there are no jobs in your field, how about a related field?  As an executive assistant, you can also consider administrative assistant or even receptionist positions.  It might not be your dream job, but it will tide you over.  While working you can look for something better.

Be sure to always carry some business cards with when going to the gym, to a meeting or even to church.  An opportunity might present itself at any time.  Be prepared.
