Armageddon is prophesied in the book of Revelations as the place where the armies of the antichrist are gathered together in preparation for the final battle with God. That this is the final battle, tells us that all the other prophesies concerning the end times or “the day of the Lord” have to precede it. In order for it to be proclaimed as ‘coming soon’ we have to see these other prophesies fulfilled, first.
Since many equate the word Armageddon with "the day of the Lord” when they ask, “Is it coming soon?” I will attempt to answer the question of this article with "the day of the Lord" in mind.
"The day of the Lord” is prophesied in many Old Testament verses as well as in the book of Revelations in the New Testament. The funny thing about prophesies though, is that they are NEVER seen as having been fulfilled until AFTER they have been fulfilled. This makes sense, because if you knew for sure that tomorrow you would get struck by lightning, for instance, you would hide in your bomb shelter until the day ‘after’ tomorrow.
One glaring biblical example of how prophesies work is in the story of Jesus Christ. The Apostles Peter and Paul say that no one, including Satan, knew that Jesus came to die for our sins. The only exemption to this was the woman who washed Jesus’ feet. It wasn’t until after it happened that it was revealed that there were 69 Old Testament prophesies declaring it was going to happen. Satan thought he had won when Jesus was crucified, because he thought that Jesus had come to establish His rule on earth. Satan and the Pharisees, who crucified Jesus, would never have co-operated if they knew the real reason Jesus came.
It follows that if Satan and humanity knew the express details of how and when “the day of the Lord” will come to pass, they would not co-operate with a God who has predetermined its occurrence. Satan knows the bible better than any human being ever born; why would he commit to a battle with God if he knew for sure he would die trying? Why would nations, who also have their own biblical experts, align themselves with the antichrist if they knew for sure they would be defeated? The answer is that even if you are able to memorize the bible in its original languages, you will never be able to uncover its truths, unless God reveals them to you. The bible says the truths of God are "hid from the wise and prudent and revealed unto babes."
