The rain was sudden but it would have been a bit silly for them to be surprised at anything that happened suddenly anymore. Grasping Peter's hand, Nicole ran and the rain poured down upon them so very determined for them to be drenched to the skin.

They ran for the shelter of the very large tree near the lake. The thickness of leaves helped a bit though they were already extremely wet. Despite how uncomfortable her clothes were becoming and how her wet hair hung in front of her eyes, when she looked up at Peter, Nicole suddenly felt happy. More happy than she had been in ages and it was weird to feel that way while looking at him for her usual feelings towards him were always of hate and irritation.

Tossing her now tangled hair over her shoulder, Nicole smiled at him. Then he smiled back and although everything around them had tried so very hard to make their lives miserable, it all seemed perfect in that moment.

Nicole stood up on her tip toes as it was the only way to reach him and and kissed Peter on the corner of his lips before setting back down again. Their smiles and the way they looked at each other changed and they looked as if they both shared thei own little secret, which they did.

As they turned to watch the storm carry on, Nicole smiled her own secret, happy smile when she felt Peter's hand gently hold hers.
