Living with an addictive personality

by Thinka

Created on: July 05, 2010

I live with a very addictive personality! I drink loads of coffee, smoke cigarettes, take tons of Tylenol, and especially, I am addicted to the Internet. I get up and the first thing that I think of is getting on the net. I love the excitement of finding new websites to make money. I suppose I am also addicted to finding any way that I can to make money online! I have tried survey sites, clicking for cash, and writing. Anyone who has an addictive personality simply puts his or her addictive toy first, before any other value in life.

There are ways to help deal with this addictive nature. You can choose not put your addictions first. You must realize that you even have a problem! Are you an addictive person? Do you take your life's savings to buy things you really do not need? Are you impulsive? Well, are we not all of these things? I would say that everyone has an addictive personality because we all get addicted to something in one way or another. It may be TV, Internet, cleaning, taking Baths, cursing, getting tattoos, or piercings, or just about anything known to man! You could even be addicted to eating, poker, exercise, weight loss, and brushing your teeth! I mean anything could be considered an addiction.

So how do we stop these things from happening? Well, what I would do is write a list. Yes, a list of all the things those are important to you. Then take the list and order what should be the most important to the least. This will help you to prioritize the most important to become the center values of your life. Next, start with the bottom of your organized list. This way, you start changing only one addiction at a time. For each day (only a day at a time), tell yourself to stray away from that habit. Find something else from the top of your list to do rather than from the bottom. Take it one day at a time. It takes time to change, and you should be patient. Do not worry if you mess up. You just should keep trying for the next day.

I think that we all have a little bit of addictive personalities instilled within us. When we put what is most important first, thus we will succeed. Remember that anything can be and addiction, it is up to you to seek help or find a way to manage them. Only you can change your problem! So, get a piece of paper and start writing!
