The main way to save money and spend less of it on gas is to figure out how to buy less of it. That is where the puzzle really begins. One step against it is to learn how to drive calmly. Those of us who still drive a 2006 Chevrolet three quarter ton pickup with a standard transmission can easily learn this lesson. You just have to watch the taximeter as you take off and always shift up into the next gear when it reaches two thousand RPM. Doing it that way saves the engine from having to crank up highly and burn more fuel. This old style pickup has enough power to get along shifting at this low RPM. Another hint in this battle is to never rev the engine up very high while driving on a highway. For some reason this pickup gets along fine and saves a lot of money just driving at seventy miles per hour.
Once the driving skills have been mastered one must become an intelligent consumer. It doesn't make any difference that a few large companies now own the old small gasoline ones. The fuel still isn't exactly the same. Tourists can easily locate the different ones and go check them out. That enables them to get a close look at where that kind of gasoline is produced and what kind of quality control exists.
It is much wiser at and understand gasoline refineries. That makes it a bit easier to figure out which brand of gasoline probably burns more efficiently and which others tend to make the car engine run badly. The high quality gasoline gives the automobile higher gas mileage.
One then must watch out. Not all gas stations sell gas with the same amount of ethanol it it. Some are out to make large profits. That's why they sell fuel with a high percentage of ethanol it it. Their customers must return more often and buy some more than they would without the additive mixed in with the fuel they sell.
Not all of the underground gas tanks are of the same quality. Some are so old water mixes into them. It just seams like the best time to buy gas is just after a load of it has been delivered. That fresh fuel tends to increase the quality.
Another bit of knowledge helps the fuel consumer. That is the fact that large cities with minority housing areas can cause consumer problems. Poor quality gas stations are in those neighborhoods.. For some reason the inexpensive fuel offered by them burn very quickly and tend to make the automobile engine run worse.
Now that the consumer strategies have been discussed another way to solve this puzzle must be looked into. You need to take some mechanical tactics in this form of combat. That way they will be armed with a more fuel efficient vehicle.
The old fashioned tactic was periodically tuning up the engine. Back in the old days in order to keep the engine up and running people had to check the ignition system. Points tended to wear out and fowl spark plugs. Twenty years ago a lot of folk understood that the oil should be changed once a certain amount of miles had been driven.
Understanding how to maintain as well as drive your vehicle will help you spend less money on gas. Modern vehicles are supposed to be sophisticated enough to dare for them selves. It still takes some automobile owner experience to make them as efficient as n9ineteen eighty Harley Iron Head Sportsters. Some luck helps as well. Good luck fellow drivers. Don't run out of gas and get stranded some where during harsh weather.
