I have been studying Astrology for over ten years. I hope to share a piece of my knowledge with you today, in a way that is easily understood and applied. I hope you enjoy the learning as much as I enjoy the sharing of knowledge and that you walk away with a greater understanding and a deeper appreciation for the ancient science of Astrology.

Basic Astrology 101

Overview -

I mostly study Tropical Astrology and so will mostly be referring to it. Tropical Astrology is essentially a mix of different kinds of Astrology and has strong roots in Ancient Egyptian Astrology and Ancient Greek Astrology.

For people who are advanced in their study of Astrology, I recommend studying and doing your chart in as many types as you can. Many people consider Astrology to be too vague or generalized, but it becomes very specific and individual when you blend your charts. It takes time and patience, but it is invaluable to those who desire a greater understanding of self through the study of Astrology.

My idea of Basic Astrology includes certain key points that I hope to elaborate upon during your reading. By the time you are finished  with this 101 you will know the meaning of the word Astrology, you will know how it was determined that you are whatever sign you are, and you should have a basic understanding of Astrology in general, how it works, and the meanings behind the terms and symbols used.

Lesson 1 - The meaning of the word Astrology

The root 'astro' comes from the Greek word astron, which means star. The suffix 'logy' (or 'ology') is used in English with words originally from Ancient Greek, it's two main uses are combining the names of sciences or bodies of knowledge (as in biology and theology) or as reference to types of speech, writing, or collections of writing (as in eulogy and trilogy); the basic meaning is 'study of' or 'science of'. The word Astrology basically means: The study or science of the stars. It is important to note that in the context of the entire word, 'astro' means celestial bodies and not just stars.

Though it is a fact that is oft overlooked in this day and age, Astrology and Astronomy were once essentially the same thing..and the words still have very similar meanings today.

Some of the many types of 'astrology' out there are not actually Astrology at all. True Astrology is both a concrete science and a spiritual science, always relating to the sky above us and the celestial bodies it contains. If a type of Astrology does not in any way,
