The Long and the Short of a Son with Needs
Long are the days when I sit by your side.
Long are the days when your tears flow like tides.
Short on understanding, is the world I see.
However, short on patience, that is not me.
For you are my son, and I am your mother,
And together we will climb this mountain of special needs.
Long are the days when affection is not shown.
Long are the days when you are lost in your zone.
Short are the moments that the world sees you care.
However, short on love, I would never dare.
For you are my son, and I am your mother,
And together we will climb this mountain of special needs.
Long are the lessons that I try to teach.
Long are the stages we try to defeat.
Short is your memory, though you always try.
However, short on determination, I would rather die.
For you are my son, and I am your mother,
And together we will climb this mountain of special needs.

The long

and now I swear I believed that.
But even though I'm not coming through,
I know that
