A Day Out with Mom
A Poem for Children
Mother says were going out today,
And while we are out, I must behave!
There is a time to be loud and quiet she said.
“Yes mother” I grumbled and nodded my head.
To the bank for some money, was our first stop.
I remembered to whisper, or so I had thought.
On to the library, to pick out some books.
Excited, I shouted as I dodged dirty looks.
Next to the market, for apples and bread,
I was quiet I swear, not a word to be said.
Though I wasn’t as quiet as I know I could be,
Mom said she had a surprise, I couldn’t wait to see!
“Close your eyes, and do not peek.”
Mother whispered as I wriggled in my seat.
“Okay, open.” Mom said with such flair.
I let out a shriek, could we really be THERE!
Laugh and shout, and slide and swing,
We are at the park, and I can be as loud as I want you see!

childishly stomp your feet.
Go ahead, make your choice,
jump up, leave your seat.
I'll shake my
