Byline
Crap factory's on the downsize
No longer producing your lies
And it's a sad situation
That you meet with some consternation
You never thought that it'd happen this way
You never thought you'd live to see the day
When someone saw past the surface
you shiver, you're looking nervous.
Still I'd give you everything of mine
Just so you'd give me a byline
When you go publish your big dreams
Don't you dare forget about me.
Bat your eyes, change your voice just so
Laugh lightly, act like you don't know
The feelings that you put me through
The mere fact that I'm in love with you.
And your best manipulations
Let tears fall, precipitation
I do anything you desire
You thank me, but you're such a liar
And I'm giving everything of mine
Just so you'll give me a byline
When you go publish your big dreams
Don't you dare forget about me.
And suddenly everything seems to be
working out for you and it's all thanks to me.
You pat my hand, sympathetic smile
You've been planning this for a little while
My throat constricts and my eyes shine
you promise everything will get better in time
I'm standing here, I'm all sucked dry
You've left me all alone to die
You found your next, it's good for you
I've no idea what I'm supposed to do
And your retreating back holds the key
You have ruined all there was to me.
At first I just wanted to feel you
Thought maybe I'd try to heal you
Swear I never wanted to steal you
Not after I saw the real you
But I gave you everything of mine
Just so you'd give me a byline
You went, you published your big dreams
You already forgot about me.
