Deer antler decorating style
Everyone has his or her own idea about how they want to decorate their home. Some folks prefer the rustic woodsy look they might want to use rough woolen throws in earth tones and raw looking leathers for the seating. Yet others might choose silks and crystals for a more elegant, sophisticated look. Some people will choose bright purples and yellows while others will opt for more demure colors. To each his or her own. What ever look you choose to decorate your home with, make it your own. Put your own stamp on it.
If you want to create a ceiling light for your home, you might want to base the light fixture on a natural or hunters theme, an easy inexpensive way to get that look is to use deer antlers as a base for your ceiling light fixture. This is a simple low cost option for a deer antler ceiling fixture.
In order to mount the deer antlers you will need a cube shaped block of wood, about six inches by six inches by six inches should serve your purpose. You may choose to use a few four by fours cut to length and glued together. They should be sanded and stained The other option would be to use a solid block treated with sandpaper and stain.. The wood may be finished or unfinished, it's your choice, use a natural stain or add a bit of other colour. You will need to drill a hole down through the center of the wood block so that you can electrify and hang the finished fixture when it is ready.
Mount the antlers, four pair, on the block putting them all facing outwards from the wood so that they are balanced and well positioned, walk around them and reposition them until you are pleased with their position. You could use a heavy duty construction glue or you can screw them into the wood block. Next you will twist fairy lights around the deer antlers, You can use as many, or as few lights as you wish on your finished fixture. Run a discretely colored, brown or beige, short extension cord through the wooden block and plug the fairy lights into the extension cord. Attach the wooden block to an electrical box with screws and mount it as you would any other electrical fixture in the ceiling. Optionally, run the extension cord along the ceiling and down to an outlet that has a switch control.
To complete the look you may want some sturdy rustic looking fabrics in natural colors for your curtains and throw pillows. Add a leather sofa and side chair. Perhaps if you can find it, a twig furniture style table and a few occasional chairs in the same style. A woven woolen Native American patterned blanket tossed over the back of the sofa and an animal hide rug would complete the look.
Go ahead, throw the light switch on and smile, you have just created an interesting, inviting room. Enjoy.
