You sit in front of your computer, having finally decided to take up an online course. For what reasons? It's either you want to pursue something you've always wanted to at your own pace, or you have a full-time job that can't take you away in attending traditional classes, or you have other family, personal, or business obligations that prioritize your schedule. Bottomline: Enrolling in an online course would mean you're including it among many other things you have going on in your daily tasks.
The day you decided to be an online student was a sign of commitment. Sticking to that commitment would take a lot of motivation, especially from yourself. Only you can do it, nobody else would do it for you. So how does one stay motivated with online learning?
1. Reminder. Moments will come when you would tend to slack off from doing your assignments, from reading your required materials, even as low as forgetting to log on. Remind yourself that you are learning online. Remind yourself why you took up studying in the first place via the world wide web. Remind yourself the end goal you'd like to achieve. You can do these little reminders either thru: stick notes, motivational quotes, goal photos, taking note of your submission deadlines in your calendar, bookmarking your online class, or simply by situating your computer and study materials right by your desk where you can see them day in and day out.
2. Focus. We have to admit that being online can lure you to checking out other websites. From clicking to a link, we end up clicking and clicking to other sites as well, and before you know it, you've forgotten that you logged in to your class. You'd also be tempted to attend more to your other matters, like vacation time or work, etc. This veers away one's attention from what needs to be done, your online learning. Focus. Set your mind on what you have set out to do, on why you are online - to study. Sure you can take breaks in between. We need a break. Relax and unwind by entertaining yourself. We need to soothe our eyes so as not to strain them from being on the computer all the time. But do remember, going back to #1 tip: Reminder - that you are logged in at your online studies. After having a break, focus yourself back to your duty as an online student. Refocus. Don't lose your focus.
