"For Simplicity's Sake"
Times, they are a-changin'
Though I haven't gotten far-
Just yesterday I figured out
My blasted VCR
I'm like Wile E. Coyote,
A beast so far off course
He couldn't stop a scrawny bird
With tons of megaforce
My new car is computerized,
And much to my delight
I ride around-all over town-
With lit check engine light
Thus, just like Don Quixote
These wheels are my foil-
Seems I lack a Ph. D
And cannot change the oil
What, pray tell, does HD mean?
It really gets my goat
My TV set is always off
Because of my remote-
A complicated, cursed thing
On which I can't depend
That operates best in the hands
Of children less than ten
Electronic devils plague me-
This left-behind old dude
Can't operate a microwave
And can't prepare his food...
Can't set a damned alarm clock
Or make a pot of tea
For things contrived to simplify
Have got the best of me
