Society has became absolutely dependent on technology for nearly every need the human race required and developed.  Technology is not bad, but the amount of dependency on technology is a future problem if measures are not taken in case of a complete failure.  In the United States, for example, the entire electric grid is operated by a series of computers that control nearly all aspects of the grid system.  When the massive blackout in the New England region occurred, in the early 2000's, the solution in fixing and restoring power relied on these computers that failed.  A massive chaos broke loose and New York City to Boston was unsure if a terrorist attack happened or something worse.  The system failed because of an aging power grid infrastructure, powered by modern computers and one faulted transformer.

Today in 2010, billions of the world's people rely on technology to make life convenient, more accessible, instant communication, information transferring, GPS navigation, and the interlinked world financial systems.  As this may be just a few of what technology provides the people of this planet, the connected financial systems are a very influential and consequential portion of technology being responsible for currency.  Most people think little about where the money they deposit into their respect financial institution is actually located, as long the money is accessible when they need it for expenses.  Technology has taken an old fashioned method of using other peoples deposits and reissuing it to other customers, but having the deposited money ready from others who deposited into the bank or savings.  The manner currency is stored presently in financial systems is a bank depositor may put tangible money into their financial institution, but the currency instantly becomes electronic and held in secure on line networks.

Geo spacial Positioning Satellites or GPS was once a military only used system and was not released to civilians until the mid 1990's for their use.  Today, we seem to have forgotten how to read a map because GPS navigation is implanted in most modern vehicles or purchased as a handheld device.  The directions to a simple destination requires the use of GPS navigation and the dependency is growing each year.  The nature of technology may be the best innovation in mankind, it has made life easier and people closer, while bringing a seemingly large world to our fingertips, but be careful.
