Why bad things happen to good people

I believe in God and that His son Jesus died for my sins.

I am going to give a brief explanation of why I think bad things happen to good people.

If a person dies then I truly believe that, yes it is a tragedy, but in a way they, if they believe in God, are in a better place than we are right now.  If they don't believe in God, then it is between them and God.

If it is something bad that creates tough times then I believe it is God's way of working in their lives.  He is trying to get their attention.  I don't think that God punishes us all the time for living a bad life.  I think He does in his own ways but I really don't think it is all the time.  We are all sinners so if that was the case I would break a bone or get hit by a car every day.  So I think God acts in His way on His time and there are times when bad things will happen to good people and when bad things will happen to bad people.

Let's take some example.  For instance, let's say that a little girl is killed while chasing a ball into the street.  It probably happens a lot.  Well what is God doing in this situation?  There is a number of things.  For starters, what is great, is that little girl is in Heaven at that moment.  The Bible talks on and on about how children go right to Heaven when they die.  She has it better off than we do. For whatever reason, God has called her home.

Another reason is that maybe God is using this as a way to warn others about the responsibility of watching our children.    I know when I read about such tragedies my thoughts definitely are more focused on the safety of my children. Her death is a tragedy but maybe her death was used to save many others.

Accordingly, maybe God is getting the attention of those who are close to her, or who for that matter, live in her neighborhood and trying to direct more of their focus on Him.  There is no doubt now in my later years that when tragedy strikes I try to lean more and more upon God for healing.  It is the best medicine. Sometimes it takes something tragic like say a 911 event to stir my focus.

Maybe God is telling the ones directly responsible for this little girl that "Look! You are living in a way that is irresponsible.  This tragedy has occurred in your life because I want your focus now upon me.  I have allowed this event to play out because through this I shall save your life and many others
