There is a possible cause for breast cancer that is less publicised then many of the others and therefore many people would never have considered it before.
According to the book ‘Dressed to Kill’ by Singer and Grismaijer, the risk of breast cancer can be greatly increased by wearing a bra for over 12 hours per day. The book states that women who wears a bra 24 hours a day have a 3 in 4 chance of getting breast cancer, those who wear a bra for more than 12 hours per day but not in bed have a 1 in 7 chance and those who wear a bra for less then 12 hours a day have a 1 in 152 chance.
The risk increase, according to Singer and Grismaijer, is due to the fact that bras restrict movement of the lymphatic system in the breasts which means toxic and cancer causing cells are not being moved out of the breasts. So a bra that is too tight and not the right size will increase the restriction of lymphatic circulation and a bra that is the right size is a necessity among all women. The book also states that the lymphatic system in the breasts only develop fully during pregnancy and breast-feeding so women who wear bras every day and put off having children are at a greater risk of getting breast cancer.
The initial research done by the authors of the book was personal. The two are man and wife and Grismaijer discovered a lump in her breast during pregnancy. After extensive research they decided that even getting the lump diagnosed (if it was cancerous) would cause more of a risk than they were willing to take. So Grismaijer stopped wearing a bra, did regular breast massages and exercise and only drank purified water, took herbs and supplements. Two months later, her lump was gone.
The couple then noticed that the Maoris of New Zealand who had integrated into the white culture had the same rate of breast cancer as other bra-wearing cultures whereas the marginalized aboriginals of Australia have practically no breast cancer. The same is true of ‘Westernised’ Japan, Fijians and other bra-converted cultures.
A study of 4500 women in 5 different cities in the US was then done and although other lifestyle factors were not taken into account Singer and Grismaijer felt the results (as mentioned above) were too striking to be denied (http://www.all-natural.com/bras.html).
Medical and scientific bodies due to ‘a lack of supporting research’ according to Wikipedia generally ignored the findings in this book, which was written in 1995. This
