Goodnight my Love
Goodnight my love the bleeding twilight dies swift
Overshadowed by night’s dark air brushed monotone hues
Victorious shifts of brave beams pierce the inky quilt and gift
Vulnerable earth with constant watchmen for nocturnal news
The clamorous carriage creaks with sodden, warped wood atop the hill
As soft misty tears kiss the blinkered cheeks of its faithful fuel
And to it I must in haste my love though sleep claims you still
In blackened garb by midnight flight or lose the fixed fight in the devil’s duel
Goodnight my love may you dream fondly of me
And forgive a heart too full of love to weep with guilt
See through bewitching blue in my loving hazel gaze, sincerity
Never doubt I belong to thee as the moon the tides tilt
As the Earth surrenders willingly to the fiery force of the sun
I would have vowed to be your bride through eternal dusks and dawn
Bowed in bound oblations lowly by my master’s heel I’d be content to shun
My father’s ambitions in soft white lace like the downy feathers of the graceful swan
To the world I have dishonoured myself and I have disgraced you
To my heart I am lawfully wed and bounteously blessed
But you, my love, deserve such happiness that the secret true
Must be sullied. I lie for you that you may hate me in your betrayed but innocent aching chest
I love you, my angel. Never more will I wake
Though exist I must for our union’s sake
Alone I will embrace this journey of shame
For my future love who will bear your name
I believe, I trust in you my light
I only will live now in memory’s dream by night
Your smile, your voice, your scent, the feel of your warmth against my breast
To trance the soft features of your timeless face by each sunless hour with my husband my soul shall rest
Of all the treasures of Earth and high Heaven above
I wish only for another chance to loving sigh, ‘Goodnight my love’
