Humor: The Old West

by B. Ender

Created on: June 28, 2010

Legend tells of a wild cowhand by the name of Jim Fielding, a rough young man that was known all too well for getting into shootouts. He was the best, however, and he had never yet met a man who was able to shoot faster than him. One story tells of a group of eight men sent to kill Fielding, all of them experienced gunslingers. When they eventually found Fielding the story goes that Jim shot all eight of them with his six-cylinder before any of the other men could fire their own guns back.  Jim sure had been in many interesting adventures but one particular story tells of how the sheriff of a small town started a huge manhunt for Jim that extended across the entirety of the western states.

Now over the course of his journeys Jim came across the small town of Dusty Bowl, New Mexico. He decided to stop there to get more supplies, as he was running low on food and water. After finding a good stable for his horse, he walked into the town saloon, The Rusty Spoon Saloon.  When he entered, everyone inside instantly recognized him, as his fame had spread over the entire western United States. They all looked upon him in wonder. Fielding, always the tough guy, met each and every stare with his own stare.  After about three minutes of complete silence Jim had managed to get everyone to stop looking at him and asked for a drink.

Of course, the sheriff of the town soon found out about Jim being there and didn’t want any part of it. He, like any other man, had heard of the stories, and Jim simply being there was the most exciting thing in the town in years. The sheriff wanted to make sure this was going to be as exciting as it got, and he walked into the saloon to give Fielding a talk. The first thing the sheriff saw was disastrous; nearly the whole bar was wrecked, and unconscious bodies filled the floor. In the middle of it all was Fielding, who held a man in his left hand and his right hand held high in a fist. As soon as he saw the sheriff, he gave the man one good punch that sent him down and tipped his hat to the sheriff.

Now, no one really knows why Jim beat up the entire saloon,
