Recipes: Halloween Rice Krispies treats

Created on: June 28, 2010

Rice Krispie treats are a favorite of people of all ages.  Turning these tasty snacks into a spook-tacular delight only takes a few minutes.  Taking a batch of these goodies to your office, child's school, Halloween party or Fall Fesitival will bring smiles to the faces of many!  This recipe can be doubled or tripled easily.

Step 1:

Melt 3 tablespoons of butter or margarine in a large pot over low heat.

Step 2:

Add in 10 ounces (about 40-45 big marshmallows).  Stir until smooth and creamy.

Step 3:

Stir in several drops or orange food coloring or make your own using 2 parts yellow to 1 part red food coloring. Use more food coloring if you want a more intense shade of orange.  Remove from heat.

Step 4:

Mix in 6 cups of Rice Krispies and 1 cup of chocolate chips with a buttered spatula or spoon.  Stir until all Krispies look evenly coated.  Resist the temptation to reach in and grab a bite because the marshmallow mixture is pretty hot.

Step 5:

Dump your beautiful mixture into a greased 9" x 13" cake pan.  Smoosh it down until it looks pretty.  Let cool and cut into squares.

Step 6:

Put some store bought vanilla or cream cheese icing into a zip top baggie.  Snip off one of the bottom corners and using the baggie as your homemade piping bag, make a spiderweb design on each of your treats.  Don't worry if it doesn't look perfect.  They won't be in their hands long enough for anyone to notice.

This recipe can be changed for Christmas by substituting green food coloring for the orange and red hot candies for the chocolate chips.  You can either skip the icing part or tint it with food coloring and make different holiday shapes on them.

Enjoy!
