Christian living: How to live a life that is pleasing to God

Recently I was in a Bible Study Group where some older teens and young adults were discussing what it takes to live a life that is pleasing to God. . They were centering their discussions on Hebrews 13:20-21 “Now may the God of peace who brought up our Lord Jesus from the dead, that great Shepherd of the sheep, through the blood of the everlasting covenant make you complete in every good work to do His will, working in you what is welling pleasing in His sight, through Jesus Christ to whom be glory forever and ever Amen.

As they discussed what it takes to live a life that is well pleasing in God’s sight, I jotted down on a notepad their ideas. What follows is a report of the notes I made that night as these young people discussed what it takes to live a life that is pleasing to God.

To be well pleasing to God in our daily lives we must:

1 .Be totally committed to Him. Jesus declared in Mark 8: 34 “Whoever desires to come after Me, let Him deny Himself, and take up His cross and follow Me.” In a similar vein the Apostle Paul, inspired by the Holy Spirit, wrote in Romans 12:1-2 “I beseech you therefore brethren by the mercies of God that you present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy acceptable to God, which is your reasonable service, and do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God.” To live a life that is well pleasing to God one must give the control of his or her life to Jesus Christ. It must be whole hearted, nothing held back. It must be a complete day by day surrender.

2. Be a person of prayer. The Lord wants us to commune with Him through the medium of prayer. By prayer we can connect heart to heart with Him. James 5:16 (b) declares “The effective fervent prayer of a righteous man avails much.” Matthew 7:7, 8 says “Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and it will be opened to you, for everyone who asks receives and he who seeks finds and to him who knocks it will be opened.” Ephesians 6:18 states “Praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, being watchful to this end with all perseverance and supplication for all the saints.”  Philippians 4:6 declares “Be anxious for nothing but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God.” 1 Thessalonians 5:17 exhorts
