The most famous highway in America, Route 66, covers a lot of ground. The "Main Street of America" stretches all the way from Chicago to beautiful Santa Monica and can make even the most dedicated traveler a little weary. So, finding the right accommodations for an overnight stay can be as adventuresome as the drive itself.
One of the most original, and fun places you can stay while traveling down Route 66 is the
Wigwam Motel. This motel is located in San Bernadino, California and each room is made in the shape of a concrete tee-pee. This hotel is definitely one of the most popular hotels on the entire stretch of the route. Staying in this motel will give you the feeling of camping out, while giving you all the amenities of a hotel room. It is perfect for those who want to add a little more adventure to their trip.
The Red Garter is a bed and breakfast that is located in Williams, Arizona in the Grand Canyon area. This place has been in operation since 1897, although it used to operate as a brothel. Now you will find a bakery on this first floor to satisfy your sweet tooth during your stay. If you want to take a day trip, the Grand Canyon Railway trail leaves from right across the street. You won't have to worry about driving yourself. This bed and breakfast is full of surprises, and there are even rumors of ghost sitings there.
If you are looking to stay in a very scenic location, the Upton Hidden Pines bed and breakfast is a wonderful place to stay. This bed and breakfast is located in Kingman, Arizona and boast a fully stocked and functional kitchen that can be used by the guest. Day trips near the area include Hoover Dam, Laughlin, and Lake Havasu City.
For more a more upscale and luxurious stay, try the Radisson Woodlands Hotel. The beautiful hotel is located in Flagstaff, Arizona. This hotel will give you all the comforts of home, including wifi internet access. Some of the nicer rooms are equipped with sleep number beds for the most relaxing night possible. There is a fitness room, with an indoor sauna and whirlpool. There is also an outdoor heated pool and spa. When you're ready to eat, you can dine in the Woodlands Cafe located in the hotel for breakfast, lunch or dinner.
When it comes to Route 66, your options are always limitless. So, the next time you find yourself traveling down this long stretch of American history, and in need of lodging, keep these places in mind.
