We’ve all done it at some point in time, or we will. You walk halfway through the office or house and can’t recall why you came into that room in which you are standing. Perhaps you’ve gone out into a parking lot after work or shopping and couldn’t recall where you parked your car. Getting a little forgetful is normal as we get older, but sometimes it can be scary, too.
Often women who are experiencing perimenopause or full blown menopause get very forgetful and it can not only interfere with our work, but it can also be a great source of stress, especially if you have a tendency to be a perfectionist at what you do. Men and women will often become forgetful when under stress and the job, kids, money problems and more can add a lot to this problem. There is hope, though and if your forgetfulness is simply stress and normal aging then, in just a few minutes a day you can actually improve your memory.
The first thing that you should do is to make sure that you keep your stress levels under control, as much as possible and try to get plenty of sleep and rest. Sleep and rest are not the same thing, you can get sleep, but whether it is restful is another story. To control stress and get more sleep and rest, you can use a number of things.
Lavender oil and tea are two of my favorites for getting sleep and rest. Lavender is a natural sleep aide and either brewed into a tea by steeping 1 tsp of lavender in a cup of boiling water for about 2-3 minutes you can fall asleep much easier. Add some honey and you will be able to enjoy a great cup of tea before bedtime. Likewise with rose hips, and chamomile.
You can also buy Lavender oil at many health food stores and rub it onto your wrists or neck and it will help you relax enough to get to sleep. You can bathe or soak in lavender oil to distress before going to bed.
Puzzles are a great way to improve memory and they can be done at various times during the day, during lunch, in a waiting room, on the bus or train, during flight or after dinner with the kids. Many puzzles and games are for individuals, but you can also buy puzzle games like Trivia a Sudoku, which can be played by the whole family. But, do not play them just before going to sleep; they are stimulating to the mind and may prevent sleep.
Sudoku, Crosswords, Word Find games are all great for the individual who needs to ramp up their memory during the day
