Growing up with O.C.D. (obsessive compulsive disorder) can truly be a nightmare at times. Those who suffer from this disorder, or other anxiety disorders, can lose valuable assets in life like: family relationships, careers, and social circles.
Panic and anxiety are part of this walk on earth. In some way, all of us have experienced a bit of anxiety or stress over a situation; however, for some individuals panic and anxiety are a regular part of their lives, causing them to live tormented day after day, having no hope of release. Anxiety and Panic can seem monstrous, but with a little education and practice, can be managed.
Some of the most beneficial things you can do if you struggle with ongoing panic or anxiety are:
Seek Medical Attention -
The phrase, “the doctor always knows best,” is so true. You may have a diagnosis that needs to be addressed. Some people try and handle their anxiety or panic with alcohol or illegal substances; however this can only make the situation much worse. Follow a doctor’s advice, and take the medication he or she prescribes you as directed.
Exercise More -
When you do a brisk walk or pump some iron, your body releases chemicals that calm the mind and soul down. Not only are you getting some healthy work-out time in, but you are also improving your mental state as well. It’s very hard to say focused on a particular topic, causing stress, when you are running, walking, or doing weights. The long-term benefits from exercising can be tremendous-so start today!
Learn Relaxation techniques -
When your mind starts racing on an obsession and your blood starts to boil, simply take a few deep breaths and focus on something else. There are a variety of techniques out there, so choose the one best suited for you. Maybe it’s stretching? Maybe you prefer deep-breathing exercises? Whatever you enjoy-make it a habit!
Anxiety and panic are two issues that millions of Americans deal with on a day-to-day basis. Remember, you are not alone! Take some of the principles given and apply them. Find out what works best for your body and respect what your body tells you-I promise you won’t be disappointed if you do! Panic and anxiety do not have to rule your life, if you take the necessary basics and apply them.
