The subject of creativity is a broad and complex subject to discuss; yet it's significance to life cannot be overemphasized. As a matter of fact, life could have been very boring and human existence would have remained in a paleolithic existence without creativity.
Creativity is one of the greatest assets and quality every man posses from his creator to develop his world. In other words, creativity is an innate ability given to every man irrespective of his background or race. Though many people seem not to agree with this fact. Many people attribute creativity only to those who come from a wealthy background and who are highly intelligent. Contrary to this believe, history reveals that most of the world greatest inventor were men who had been branded dullards and retarded. Their failure to believe this fact is as a result of their lack of understand of what creativity really is.
What is Creativity? Unlike many phenomena in science and psychology, there is no single authoritative perspective or definition of creativity.
Albert declares, " The problem of creativity is beset with mysticism, confused definitions, value judgment, psychoanalytic admonitions and the crushing weight of philosophical speculation dating from ancient times"
Creativity cannot be well defined without first talking about Imagination. This is the prestine power of the mind and when it is nurtured it produces a tangible result. There is no creativity anywhere, at any point in time without imagination because it is the birth place of all creative inventions. An author once said ''Every product ever created on earth were created twice. The intial creation started from the mind (Imagination) then the final creation in the factory. Though, imagination alone cannot get the job done, but it is inevitable for any creative adventure. Besides, it is important to not that one imagination can be more creative than the other but the fact that a man can imagine a thing shows that he can also be creative.
But according to Rev. Pat, "creativity is common sense made uncommon. Creativity is simply creating something new out of the one already in existence". To further expplain the definition above, creativity is said to be 'common sense made uncommon.' In otherwords, a creative product may not necessarily be something total strange or new, but something better than what was already given.
