Why you shouldn't let other people's jealousy of your career success hold you back

In a perfect world success would bring you lots of friends and admirers. While some people will admire your hard work and success, others will probably just be jealous of you. This means you should be ready for some to put you down or tell you that you only got to where you were because of luck. Those are the people who are simply insecure and probably don't think they can have the level of success that you can have. Don't let these people hold you back though.

Jealous people should be left alone to harbor their jealous feelings on their own. They can either live with the fact that you got a promotion, or some other increase on the job, or they can live with the feelings of inferiority. Don't let these people bring you down because this is all they are going to be good for. You are better than that and stronger than that as well.

Why do you care what other people think? Does harboring thoughts of fear about what others think really matter in your office? Don't be afraid of your success, let it be something that motivates you. Chances are that you don't fully believe in yourself if you are letting opinions of others hold you back. Clear your own mental blocks and you can get rid of the objections of others as well.

The other thing you get when you let others shape your career is self-doubt and regret. You will be kicking yourself for not at least trying that new position or seeing how that promotion effects your career. It is always better to try and to fail than never to try. Even if you fail you will at least realize what your limits are for the time being and what you are going to need to work on in your career. Failing at the next level is still one level higher than the doubters have gotten, right?

If you don't take the chances given to you, you might not get the chances ever again. You never know how much patience the boss is going to have with you to make up your mind. He might give up on you and give your promotion to someone who wants it more. You risk becoming a career middle manager, or worse, employee, if you don't take your chances now. Show you have confidence in yourself and just go for it!

Never let others get in the way of your dreams of success. Do what you have to do and let others think and say what they will. The truly successful will all have people who are jealous and will hate them for their success. In some ways this is almost a badge of honor saying you have made something of yourself.
