Dark Side of the Moon was a great album, and it still is. It will always remain as one of the best albums ever made.
the first song, Speak to Me has the sound of heartbeats, clocks, laughter, a cash register, helicopter sounds, and finally screaming. These reflect on songs which happen later in the album.
Breathe is the second song, which comes straight after some backwards instruments such as cymbals and guitar. On some albums this is still counted as the first track because of this. It has many guitars, such as the slide guitar and electric guitar multi-tracked by Gilmour. It is fairly slow and quiet. The use of panning of the guitars is excellent, as the guitars are not too far right or left, and not too far in the middle, which gives the song "space"
On the run is probably the most experimental tracks on the album. it uses instruments in different ways. The hi hat sound gives the effect of someone running, which relates to the name of the song. There are many sound effects created by guitars and synthesizers, which pan from left to right giving the effect of someone running past the sounds.
The next song, Time, starts off with sounds of clocks ticking, and then chiming. The next part is an eerie part, with Nick Masons, rototoms, toms without a shell, which then leads straight into Gilmour singing. Gilmour sings on the verse, and the keyboard player Richard wright sings in the bridges, along with some female backing singers. The songs lyrics focus on time, and how it seems to go quicker as you get older. It also has (in my opinion) one of gilmours best guitar solos. The tempo of the song is 120 beats per minute, which means every two beats is exactly one second. As the song finishes, it immediately follows into a reprise of Breathe.
The Great Gig in the Sky is basically a female vocal solo with pink Floyd doing the backing. The singing resembles being in pain, because it is screaming. The song slowly fades out completely. Personally I do not like this song because i feel it is out of place from the album, all the other songs have definite structures with verses and choruses, whereas this song doesnt seem to. also every other song has one of the band singing on the song, but this one has a woman which makes it sound out of place to me.
The next song Money starts off with cash registers and then the guitar riff comes in. This is my favorite song as it is in 7/4, but doesnt feel odd. The songs time signature goes into 4/4 for the guitar solo, as gilmour thought it
