Some days a writer will get so many ideas flying around in their mind that they'll have difficulty in keeping up - but it's important to try, as every writer will have fallow periods.
Brainstorming is normally a group activity, with bouncing ideas off each other, but this isn't always possible for writers, because of its often solitary nature. Ideas can come at the most unexpected moments, and although there is a tendency of modern writers to be chained to their computers, often a break will free up the mind. This can come just from sitting in the garden on a sunny day. So, always have a pen in your pocket and just a scrap of paper to scribble down ideas!
Many Ideas Quickly
On a good day, brainstorming can produce many ideas for articles in no time, and when one's relaxed, but still trying to come up with ideas, that is when the creative juices can be flowing. Freelance writers can often put undue pressure on themselves and stifle creativity. If you have can bring out ideas on many subjects, and have the capability to turn these ideas into good articles, then you'll realize the benefits of successful brainstorming.
Creating the the right environment can be created for a successful brainstorming session. Peace and quiet, if you can find it, will help, but even a mundane TV show could provoke a raft of ideas. Different writers can write under differing conditions, so decide what is best for you.
Not everything which comes out of a brainstorming session will work out. But if you have enough ideas, then there are bound to be some which will be good ones, and stay good ones - when you begin selecting which ideas to use for your articles.
Instigating Ideas
One way of instigating ideas is to read voraciously on the subjects you want to write about. That'll often result in ideas at the time, but also later when one is not expecting them.
There will be some freelance writers who have the capacity to come up with ideas consistently, but even they will hit a brick wall now and again. Brainstorming can allow you to build up a reservoir of many ideas for articles, and consequently be able to put out work at the regular pace freelance writers try to do.
Freelance writers will welcome anything that helps them, and brainstorming can give a writer many ideas - and quickly.
