It was Friday night and the girls at the studio were going out drinking. This had been a regular ritual for them for months. The usual group would get together: Bonnie, Lynda, Judy and Jeannie. They decided to go to O’Reilly’s Pub because they served free appetizers and half price drinks. After a long hard day, they needed a couple of drinks.
Lynda decided to drive because she had the biggest car. It was five thirty and they were all ready to go. The Pub wasn’t far from the studio. When they got there, quite a crowd had already gathered. The girls always stood at the bar so they could mingle. Tonight they settled at a space at the end of the bar. “Vodka martinis straight up with a lemon twist and an olive for all of us, please.” said Judy to the bartender. This was their signature drink because they loved the glass they were served in and the drinks packed quite a wallop. The girls had been to this Pub many times over, so the bartender knew them well. “Do you girls want to run a tab like usual?” said the bartender. “Yes!” they all replied in unison, and they laughed.
Judy was the social butterfly. She had a boyfriend and wasn’t looking for anybody. Lynda was five foot nine. Judy usually tried to find tall guys to introduce to Lynda. Jeannie was a little over weight and had a loud laugh that was infectious and could be heard all throughout the bar. Bonnie was sort of quiet but after a couple of martinis, she had a complete personality change.
The girls had a couple of drinks and things were rolling. Jeannie had found a fellow to talk to and they were engrossed in conversation. Lynda and Bonnie were talking to someone, and Judy was on the prowl. “Lynda, I found someone for you! This is Mark and he is six foot four!” Judy exclaimed. “Mark, this is my friend Lynda.” said Judy. Mark was also handsome. They appeared to be attracted to one another and started talking along with Judy. It was getting late and Jeannie was going to leave with the guy she had been talking to, but that was a “no no.” The girls made a pact that they could never go home with a guy. That was a cardinal rule. “No, Jeannie. You know our rule!” said Bonnie. “Come on guys, just this once!”
