I grew up in the 80's with no high tech educational toys. However, I managed to get a college degree. I do admit that I'm horrible at math though, and educational math toys might have changed that for me. It's important to make learning fun, but fancy toys and gizmos really only take away from the learning lesson. The child will focus on the playing and not the learning aspect of the toys. There are other creative and enjoyable ways to educate young children. They include having them learn with friends, or using real life examples as teaching moments. Many parents use education toys today and there's nothing wrong with that.

Children are perfectly capable of learning without educational toys. However, they really do help children learn and grow. Leapster games can really help children learn and have fun at the same time. Toys like legos and playdough help children express their creativity, but only the basic sets that don't come with patterns or designs. Educational toys are also great if children use them with friends since it'll help them with their socializing and sharing skills as well.

There is also such a thing as too many educational toys. Educational toys are great, but children can get frustrated and overwhelmed if you give them too many. There is also no need to go out and spend thousands of dollars on educational toys since you can make educational toys or games for children yourself for very little money and you can get some great ideas from educational web sites.

It's also important to let children chose some of their educational toys and have a say in the ones that you pick out with them. The more interested the child is in the toy, the more often the child is going to play with the toys. You also want to pick out toys that are going to enhance the child's interests and preferences since you want you child to go after his or her interests and pursue them as much as possible.

Education should be fun, but should also be taken seriously. Toys take away from the seriousness of learning, and the power as well. My philosophy is that there's a time to learn and a time to play. The toys will probably be broken or boring in a few days or weeks anyhow. Educational toys can be very expensive, and children can become very dependent on them. Do children need educational toys? No they don't, they only need their imaginations.
