A beginner's guide to making money from blogging

Created on: June 22, 2010

The procedures which are required to be followed in order to make money from blogging are in no way overly complicated. One does not require any great level of technical Internet knowledge, nor any particular level of schooling in advertising and marketing techniques. What the beginner absolutely does need in order to make money from blogging, however, is a basic understanding of how blogs work, how they are made to target relevant traffic and how money is in fact made from the practise.

The first step to making money from blogging is in choosing the correct subject nature for the blog. It is imperative that the blog be on a very specific subject, which is likely to appeal to a very targeted audience. If the blog is too general in its topic, it will know such levels of competition on the Web that it is highly unlikely to generate significant levels of traffic and thus generate decent levels of revenue. It is imperative that considerable thought be put in to this factor before any attempt is made to actually create the blog.

When it comes to the stage of actually creating the blog, it is important that one make the title and the URL of the blog as representative of its specific subject as possible. This is both in order that it be ranked to best effect by the search engines and that those search engine browsers inputting related criteria are most likely to find it and click upon its link. The two should also match one another as closely as possible.

The blog set up and active, one still has more to attend to before concentrating on promoting it and making money from it. Blogging requires that successful blogs be posted to on an extremely regular basis with quality, useful and interesting posts. In order to instil confidence in one’s earliest visitors in this fashion, one should make several posts on the day upon which the blog is created, not just one. Thereafter, the blog should be posted to at least three times per week in this fashion, especially in the early weeks and months. As time goes on, it is a good idea to actually include in the blog header a guide for visitors as to how often the blog is likely to be updated with new posts, maintaining the guideline of a minimum of three posts per week.

There are two principal ways in which one can make money from the blogging process. The first is by incorporating Google Adsense on the blog. This is where one signs up for a Google account and Google will automatically place ads on the blog, appropriate to its
