Gluten-free diets are specific to those with Celiac Disease or gluten intolerance. The rise of this condition has made many restaurants and grocery stores carry more brands that contain no gluten. It is very important that those on this special diet receive the best out of dining out without having to limit themselves. Here are a few steps to avoid getting an allergic reaction.
Step One
Make sure you know what is on the menu. Believe it or not, most Americans dine out on an impulse versus the traditional planning. It is vital to know what is being offered as well as a brief history of the place you go to. Ask questions relating to how green they are as a diner or how knowledgeable they are when it comes to vegan dining.
For example, if you really love sushi, but cannot eat the rice they use (rice doesn't necessarily contain gluten, but its preparation adds gluten to it in most Asian cuisines) ask them to replace rice with more veggies instead. Some places will do that for free if you stress your condition enough.
Step Two
Ask a lot of questions. Before you decide on any item from the menu make sure the food is made separate from any items containing gluten. Many places will not tell their customers how their food is prepared so make sure they know why you are asking and stress the importance of your condition. The last thing you want happening to you is an allergic reaction.
For instance, don't go out to dine at a place that specialize in making burgers. Their hamburger buns will be everywhere and they will most likely not be as careful with your food as you'd like them to be; however, keep in mind that all restaurants love their customers and will be happy to oblige as long as it is humanely possible for them to do so.
Step Three
After you've made sure the environment is gluten free, choose an item that is naturally gluten free such as baked fish, veggies, baked or grilled chicken, etc. Don't always count on fried food to be gluten free and always choose grilled food over baked food. Sometimes it is very hard to get the foods you want to be gluten free so try your hardest to find places that are vegan, as they tend to eat gluten free as well, to meet your dining needs.
In conclusion, be aware of all dining options, read through the menu, ask a lot of questions, and choose what you want to eat wisely. There are several places to eat out without worrying how to eat gluten free while dining out. Google as many places as possible and you never know perhaps there is a perfect place that serves gluten free pastries to satisfy your cake desires out there.
