You can have cool colors in your hair no matter if you are 10 or 100. Sure you can buy many colors for dark or light hair these days, but none as fun as Kool-Aid.There are so many colors to choose from, and you can mix and match flavors to get the color you want. Your hair will also smell " fruity" for a few days which is an added bonus! In order to get the bright effect of a color on dark brown hair, you will need to lighten the strands you want to color ( quick and easy with hair bleach). If you purchase your color then the directions will be printed on the bottle. If you choose to go the Kool-Aid route it does take a little longer to get the color you want. There are many ways to do this, but this method works great.
What you will need: Aluminum Foil, towel, tablespoon of your favorite conditioner, ( or more, depending on how much of your hair you are coloring, this will be sufficient if you are just coloring a few strands), a few drops of warm water, small bowl, 1 package of Unsweetened Kool-Aid mix in your favorite color , disposable gloves, and 3-4 hours of spare time.
Step one: Make sure your hair is clean and dry. It is best to do this at night right before bed because the longer it is on your hair, the better the color. If you can leave it on for about 6 hours,( depending on the porosity and texture of your hair) it fades gradually and lasts about 2 months. Mix the whole package of Kool-Aid with the few drops of water in a small bowl. Stir until you can no longer see any dry Kool-aid, then mix in the tablespoon of conditioner. You want this to be a thick paste that will stay on your hair.Paste the mixture to the strand of hair you would like to color, making sure it is completely saturated, then cover with foil ( to keep it from getting on your other hair pieces). You can sleep in the foil if you do this late at night .
Step Two: After your time is up, put your gloves back on and remove the foil, and wash your hair in a sink or over the bathtub the first time ( if not, you may end up with kool-aid stained skin when the shower washes it down your body)..You can style your hair however you want, AND if the color isn't bright enough for you, it's just kool-aid... redo it!
Kool-Aid fades gradually, and will fade faster if you wash your hair daily. If you wash your hair 3 times a week it lasts about 2 months before it completely fades. Of course because all hair is different, individual results may vary. Enjoy!
