In the Old Testament, men who were moved by the Holy Spirit, prophesied about the coming of Jesus Christ. The prophets, who were messengers of God, foretold his birth, ministry, death, burial, resurrection and ascension. There are over 300 prophecies that speak of Jesus Christ.
The prophet Micah prophesied about Jesus birth in Micah 5:2: But thou Bethlehem Ephrathah, which thou art little to be among the thousands of Judah, out of the shall one come forth unto me that is to be the ruler in Israel; whose goings forth are from old, from everlasting. The ruler that he spoke of was Jesus. He would be born in Bethlehem and would establish his kingdom. Not an earthly kingdom, but a spiritual kingdom.
Isaiah would prophecy about Jesus ministry and his death. Isaiah 52:13-15: 13 Behold, my servant shall deal wisely, he shall be exalted and lifted up, and shall be very high. 14 Like as many were astonished at thee (his visage was so marred more than any man, and his form more than the sons of men), 15 so shall he sprinkle many nations; kings shall shut their mouths at him: for that which had not been told to them shall they see; and that which they had not heard shall they understand. Jesus would would act with intelligence as to succeed in his objectives. The kings would be amazed by the teachings of Jesus. The message that would be told to them would be the message of salvation through the cross.
Isaiah would also speak of Jesus death and burial. Isaiah 53:7-9: 7 He was oppressed, yet when he was afflicted he opened not his mouth; as a lamb that is led to the slaughter, and as a sheep that before its shearers is dumb, do he opened not his mouth. 8 By oppression and judgment he was taken away; and as for his generation, who among them considered that he was cut off out of the land of the living for the transgression of my people to whom the stroke was due? 9 And they made his grave with the wicked, and with a rich man in his death; although he had done no violence, neither was any deceit in his mouth. Jesus did not open his mouth in his own defense. It was the will of God the Father that he would suffer and die on the cross. The rich man that was spoken of in verse 9 would be Joseph of Arimathea who would help bury Jesus.
The Psalmist David would speak of Jesus resurrection. Psalms 16:10-11: 10 For thou will not leave my soul to Sheol; Neither will thou suffer thy holy one to see corruption. 11 Tho wilt show me the path of life: In thy presence is fullness of joy; In thy right hand there are pleasures for evermore. Jesus would conquer death and his body would not see corruption.
After his resurrection Jesus would remain on the earth for forty days before he ascended back to Heaven. In Psalms 2:4a He that sitteth in the heavens will laugh. This is referring to Jesus that he is in heaven.
All the prophecies that the prophets foretold would be full filled by the the Son of God, Jesus Christ.
