2007 NFL draft: Prospect analysis

With the draft fast approaching and the scouting combine finally over it's time to speculate. Which one of these guys will be the best in three or four years? It seems as though there are only a few choices out there. Brady Quinn, Joe Thomas, Jamarcus Russell, and Calvin Johnson. Let's take a look at each of their strengths and weakness.

Brady Quinn: Smart, great arm accuracy, comes from a pro style offense so he should be prepared for the NFL. The only question is his arm strength which may make a few teams shy away, however he has the work ethic and all the intagibles to be great.

Joe Thomas: Left tackle is the most important position on the offensive line, and Thomas is a guy who can anchor a line for the next 8-12 years. His only flaw is that he is only slightly above average in run blocking, and left tackle is usually a boom or bust position.

Jamarcus Russell: The guy has amazing physical ability, but people question his work ethic and field smarts. That should be a red flag right there. Not to say he can't have success but I certainly wouldn't take a risk on him in the top 5.

Calvin Johnson: The kid is unstoppable, he measures in at nearly 6'5 and 239 pounds, yet still ran a 4.35 at the combine in a pair of shoes he had to borrow! He should easily be a top 10 WR by the end of his second year and possibly the best by the end of his third.

So who is the best? In my opinion it's Calvin Johnson, but Brady Quinn is a close second and provides possibly the most value in the top 5 of the draft.
