Browsing the Dish Network satellite television schedule can be tough if you've got more than a hundred channels in your package. Dish Network provides a favorites list feature with many of its receiver models. Favorites lists make finding your favorite channels much faster and easier, because they filter out the channels you don't want to watch. You can create multiple favorites lists for different purposes and for different family members.

Turn your television and your Dish Network receiver on. Find a notepad or piece of paper and a pencil. On your remote, press "Guide" until you see "All Sub" on your television screen. Press the up and down arrow buttons to browse the channels. Jot down the names and channel numbers of the channels you watch most frequently. Take some notes on who watches each channel most often, and what category the channels belong to.

Press the "Menu" button, then press the up arrow until "Preferences" is highlighted. Press the "Select" button, then press the down arrow until you highlight the "Favorites" option. Press the "Select" button again.

Press the down arrow on your Dish Network remote to select the desired favorites list. You can only edit the user-created favorites lists; the "All Chan" and "All Sub" lists are fixed. Press the right arrow, then the down arrow until you highlight "Modify List." Decide ahead of time which favorites list this should be; for example, is it a favorites list for the kids, a sports list, a movie list, a news list, a pay per view list or a cooking channel list? Press the number pad to enter a channel number you'd like to add to this list. Refer to your notes as necessary. Press "Done" when your favorites list is complete.

Go down and highlight the "Edit Name" option. Enter a name for your favorites list that matches the purpose or the channels it contains. Press the "Done" button when the name is complete.

Repeat these steps for each favorites list you'd like to create. You'll need to create separate favorites lists for each Dish Network receiver box you use, as well as for each side of each receiver box. Press "Cancel" until the menu closes. Press the "Guide" button several times to pull up your new favorites lists.
