Do guardian angels exist?

by Roxanna Kay

Created on: June 17, 2010

Guardian Angels are among us! I have an army of them. Fortunately, I have many witnesses to this fact or I would think I was crazy. So many times I've heard, “that had to be your mom watching over you”. Knowing I have an army of guardian angels tends to make me push my limits a bit – okay, a lot.

It's hard to pick only one miracle my guardian angels have performed. The one I opt to share will leave no room for doubt who was behind it. No one was with me; there are no witnesses this time. Just me at one of life's crossroads.

In 1992, I was twenty-seven with two babies ages one and two - and going through a divorce. As a private investigator I was deep in threats and being harassed twenty-four hours a day. Evidence I uncovered had the bad guys extremely angry with me. Sleep was a luxury since my phone would ring twenty times a night with threats of torture and death spewing through the receiver. Even with it unplugged I didn't sleep in case they made good on their threats. Vans parked in front of my house constantly. Once when I tried to turn left into my driveway they revved the engine like they were going to bash into me - my babies were in the back seat. Any mom can tell you something happens inside your soul when your babies are in danger or mistreated. Call me “Momma Moose” because I don't care who you think you are I will retaliate when it comes to my children. I pulled my gun and charged at the van on foot. They sped off as I chased them memorizing the tag number…I only fired my weapon twice at the van.

It was never my intent to be a single mom. An abusive spouse wasn’t my idea of happiness either. Forced to step-up and take control of my adverse situation I lunged into single parenting. The stress I carried from every direction of my life was horrendous. To cry was a waste of time. To go camping was the answer! Get back to basics in the woods without looking over my shoulder or cringing every time the phone rang. After packing for two babies, camp gear and food then loading the car, I was exhausted. It would all be worth it though. We hit the road and traveled three hours to a lake away from it all.

I unloaded everything, pitched the tent then took the kids down by the water and played a little bit. Back at camp I built a fire, fed the kids, made our beds in the tent and looked forward to a good night's sleep. My two year old son was fascinated with the fire. My one year old daughter still wasn't steady on her
