For a person who is always mesmerized with fairy tale endings, "Coming to America" is far the best movie I've seen with Eddie Murphy. The plot is so fairy tale-story book and the characters were clearly woven together with chemistry. Arsenio Hall was an added bonus to the comedian, their working tandem was hilarious and really made me laugh,short of pissing in my pants. The all too-good assistant who catered to Prince Akeem's not-to-worldly view of New York and the way he changed their run-down apartment teeming with rats to an expensive suite was so comical.And of course not to forget Prince Akeem's love interest, Shari, down to earth and with a good heart.

I love watching the prince's family, their grandiosity, the extravagance and opulence emanating from the time they followed their son, Prince Akeem to New York. The shower of flowers to the road or pavement they walked on. The elegance and contrasting effect to the New Yorker of the king and queen's entourage, one will never get tired of watching this movie.

As every fairy tale goes, thereare heartaches and downfalls in the movie. The discovery of Prince Akeem's background, who worked with lowly jobs to experience how to be a commoner, to find out he's the son of one of the riches kings in the world was touching. People started to be nice to him, trying to win his favor when in fact in the past they never spare him even with a short glance thinking he's nobody but a lowly janitor of a store. You can see what conniving people will do for money.

There are other movies that Eddie Murphy did but I think people came to know him because of this film. They loved him because of this film. He is one of the most versatile actors in the history of show business. Young comedians idolized him someday dreaming to  be like him. "Coming to America" was an attestation of a rising star and it surely did. It became one of my favorite movies. I can watch this a hundres times and will definitely will not get tired of it because I love the antics, I love the story, and I love the characters. This movie will be one of Eddie Murphy's legacy to the comedians today and the soon-too come.  I'm sure in the years to come this movie will be of the greatest classic movies at all times.
