Side effects of Flexeril

Flexeril is a muscle relaxant which is prescribed in order to relieve the pain and potential damage from muscle spasms, which may be caused by other underlying conditions. New research may lead to Flexeril being prescribed to treat fibromyalgia. It comes as an oral tablet and is typically taken several times per day;  your doctor will prescribe a specific treatment with this respect.

Note that Flexeril is a brand name used by the Merck pharmaceutical corporation to market the drug compound cyclobenzaprine. Cyclobenzaprine may also come under the brand name Apo-Cyclobenzaprine, Fexmid, and Amrix.

There are a number of potential side effects of Flexeril. Relatively common and mild side effects of Flexeril include an upset stomach, dry mouth, dizziness, and drowsiness. C-Health also lists, as possible side effects of Flexeril, other digestive difficulties (including heartburn, nausea, constipation, or diarrhea), trouble sleeping, muscle twitches, and fatigue. As with all medications which may cause drowsiness, it is important not to drive or operate heavy machinery if you think you may come under the effects of the drug while doing so. Otherwise, the National Institutes of Health recommend that you need only bring these potential side effects of Flexeril to the attention of your doctor if they are particularly serious or persistent.

However, there are also several side effects of Flexeril which indicate a much more serious reaction to the drug, and are cause for more concern. These include fever, confusion, classic symptoms of an allergic reaction (such as a skin rash or hives), difficulty breathing, chest pain, seizures, and an abnormal heartbeat. The National Institutes of Health warn that you should "call your doctor immediately" or seek urgent medical attention if you begin to experience any of these side effects of Flexeril. Chest pain and difficulty breathing are very serious symptoms which should always be immediately investigated by a medical professional, regardless of whether you feel they are connected to a particular drug.

It is also possible to experience an overdose after taking an abnormally large dose of Flexeril. If you believe that you or someone else may have had an overdose of Flexeril, it is essential to seek urgent medical attention for the person affected.

The above information is based on research into publicly available sources. However, when it comes to prescription medication, there is no substitute for professional medical advice from your doctor and your pharmacist, which should always be followed precisely.
