The film is set in Australia in the early 1940’s and stars Nicole Kidman as Lady Ashley who is a posh English woman. She goes out to Australia to find her husband who is working at their cattle ranch. When she arrives she is met by Drover, played by Hugh Jackman, who is to escort her to the ranch but the pair do not see eye to eye and she thinks he fancies her.
When they arrive at the ranch Lady Ashley is shocked to discover her husband is dead and lots of their best cattle has been stolen. Drover leaves Lady Ashley at the ranch top get back to work she is not happy. Soon she is shocked and scared to find a young Aboriginal boy in her room, Nulla who tells her he sang for her to come and help them and how he believes she can save the ranch from the cattle thieves and the business man who is trying to take over it.
Nulla is in danger as he is a half-cast boy and the police are trying to get him to send him away but with the help of Lady Ashley he is saved but soon she is having to take responsibility for him as his mother dies. Nulla renames Lady Ashley Mrs Boss and this name is what she is known as. It is soon discovered that the cattle was stolen by the staff at the ranch and so Mrs Boss gives them all the sack and says that she will drive the cattle to the deliver place by herself so she can keep her ranch. Mrs Boss now has to get hold of Drover to help her.
Will Drover, Mrs Boss and their gang be able to drive the cattle and save the ranch and what will become of young Nulla and will Drover and Mrs Boss ever tell each other how they really feel?
Well, it does look like I have given away a lot of the plot but believe me I have not. This is only the beginning of the film, there is so much more to the story and I really have tried to explain it in the best way possibly.
I was really expecting a lot from this film as all the trailers I have seen made it look good and my Mom said it was excellent and I am happy to say that I was not disappointed. Even my hubby who was not too keen to watch this was pleased with it and he did say how much better it was then he was expecting.
The storyline is excellent and I was a bit shocked when I thought the middle bit was actually the ending but we then had over another hour of story, I thought this was great as it was so different to the other films I have seen. The way the story was told was good and at times very moving. I think it touched on some sensitive stories which ere handled very well. I would say that some
